On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the ending of the First World War, on 11th November 1918, the British Honorary Consulate in Bhutan would like to extend its sympathies to the families all over the world of the more than nineteen million soldiers and civilians who died in that War. Bhutan was most fortunate in that the First World War had minimal impact on the Kingdom; however many thousands from our neighbouring countries in South Asia were casualties of that War. The First World War changed the World we live in, and we live with its effects today, even in Bhutan

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
